Post Office Box

The house here on Gobbler's Run was the original Yanac Post Office. There is a spot on the front wall of the house which I think use to be for the P.O.boxes. Just up the road is the old Yanac store, it closed in 1995. For the last few years that the store operated it took over the role of post office as well. Here in the picture of the Yanac store you can't really see but there is a large brass plate with post office boxes. I think, judging by the measurements that this was originally in the front wall of my house.

The photo on the left is the front of my house. The photo above is from the old store. I am starting to get ready to finish the painting and next on the list is the outside! I am really hoping to run into the owners of the old store and ask if they would be interested in letting me put the P.O.boxes back into the front of my house. The old store is slowly being eaten away by white ants and it would be a same to loss some of the original fixtures. I think with a bit of elbow grease and a bottle of 'brasso' it would come up a treat and be a real point of interest. And just for a giggle here is a photo Jamie took of me as I tried to get out of my new hammock! Not the most flattering shot of me LOL!!

What an amazing heritage your house has.
I hope you get to 'recover' the po boxes.
The hammock in the sunshine looks very nice.
It is raining here and I am feeling envious.

What a great idea Kristy! The postboxes would look great back in your home ( and be looked after!)

I love the hammock shot - they are so comfy, but very unelegant to get in and out of!

Now either your legs are too short or your hammock too high ;) LOL
Really love the idea of putting the PO boxes back where they belong, hope you manage to get hold of them.

The owners of the old post office was Joe and Ivy Roberts and the owner of the General store was Ted Cole. He was the original to open it. It's been owned by alot of people. The Sinclair's bought it, then the Everton's bought it off of the Sinclair's then the Wheaton's bought it from them. His name is Les Wheaton!!!
