My Latest Soap!

I'm so happy with my latest batch of soap I just had to show everyone!

I am really impressed with this mould. It's made by Willow and I got it in the local IGA. It makes 6 teddy bear soaps. This soap doesn't have any duck fat, just olive oil and rice bran oil with an essential oil blend called Baby Calm with rose, lavender and chamomile. I'm hoping to use them for gifts to my friends with little kids. Does any one know how to test if the soap is still caustic? I've read about touching it with your tongue but the thought of that is a bit scary (I'm a wimp) I don't want to hurt a young ones sensitive skin. My first batch of soap, the only one that has cured took a long time to reach trace but is safe (I've been using it) but the next two batches reached trace within only a few minutes so I'm not sure if they will be OK. I'm not sure what to expect, how long should it take? Please experienced soap makers.......Help LOL

sorry I can't help you with the testing of the soap as I've never made any (yet)I'm sure someone can offer you advice.

The mould is cute :)

I really love your blog, you have a such a fun side to it...anyway, I had to lol when I just read about your reluctance regarding licking the soap. After reading your previous post on your accident-prone nature I couldn't help but laugh and think that was a wise move not to lick the soap.

I can't help either but it looks beautiful.
I remember as a kid when I got pretty soaps I would never use them. They were too nice to waste on cleaning!

Kirsty I can understand your reluctance to lick the soap considering your past history :-) but I've done it plenty of times and I promise it won't hurt as much as all the accidents you've had :-)

Your soap looks beautiful by the way. What a great mould.

Now, just lightly put the tip of your tongue on the soap and you should feel nothing and just taste soap. If there is the slightest "zing" you'll know it.

I think that if you wash your hands with a soap that is caustic they will feel very dry but I haven't tried it so I'm not sure about that. I guess it depends on how strong it is.

I just worked out what the little dark spots are on his face....potting mix! The mould was in the same bag as a rose I bought LOl and I was to excited to wash it first, I just gave it a shake out.

I can't stop laughing Kirsty. It could only happen to you. I thought you must have put some crushed herbs in there.
Have you licked that soap yet? Go on I dare you. :-) The potting mix might give it some extra flavour.

Hi kirsty, to test your soap, just go to the chemist and buy some pH test strips. Wet the soap and rub a little on the strip. It will give you an accurate reading. I just found this link you might liek to read about ph of soap.
