Homemade Soap Presentation.

I've just packaged up my soap with some help with ideas from Vicki at Ivywood Cottage. I would love some feed back, be it positive or negative (I can take it;) and any other ideas you may have.

On the left is an Olive Oil soap with lavender and rose (watch out for man boobs) and a Baby-Calm Olive oil soap on the right.

I am making little round guest size soaps as samples that you would be able to pick up and smell and feel. The big question is if you saw these at a market would you buy them? I asked mum and she said she would buy them but she has to say that she is my mum LOL. They have little stickers on the back that say what fragrance each one is. Please Please Please tell me what you think and if I can improve the presentation in any way.

is that raffia on the rose shaped soap?? I like how you've presented them and as they're wrapped I think the little sample that people can touch/smell is a great idea. I would buy them, definately as I could see/feel/touch/smell samples :)

another idea is that with square or rectangular soap, say oatmeal or something similar, I would just wrap raffia around it, as like you'd wrap a box/parcel and not necessarily have plastic on it so that it looks "more natural" if you know what I mean :) you would still put sticker on the back of the soap if you wanted to.

GO FOR IT!! :)

just looked the pics again, and have you tried cutting the bag on the rose rose shorter to see what it looks like so not as much plastic is above where the ribbon is tied/bowed ?? Perhaps have a go with one and just see what it looks like...... :)

Thanks heaps Ali Ill go and have a try at trimming the bags. That was one of my worries that with them in bags you can't feel smell etc that was why I did up samples I hope that works I've also got some rectangular bars too and I've been playing around with a strip of nice paper say 1" wide wrapped around the middle and then raffia around that and a little dangly tag with the scent on it. That's hard to explain so when I get one done I'll post a pick Thanks Ali for you suggestions:)

Looks really great to me, and I'm with ali, the less packaging the better. Good Luck! :)

A change is as good as a holiday LOL ;) I really overdid the essential oils in the rectangle bars and they are giving me a awful headache! I can't get close enough it wrap them! LOL

Kirsty, I like your presentation, you've used cellophane bags, which are environmentally sound and raffia, ditto. I think they're fine for selling at a market or online but I doubt a shop would buy them. We used to have a shop up here at Montville and our cellophane packaged stuff didn't sell well. You're better off with a paper band around your soap that you tape together. Just a printout from your printer would do fine. People don't mind buying homemade soap with just a paper band to tell them what they're buying. If you do this though, you'd need some wooden boxes, lined with fabric, or something similar, to display them.

People love picking up soap and smelling it before they buy. You've done a really good job with the soap. Congratulations.

BTW, I don't mean to criticise, this is all positive feedback. : )

Kirsty you've done a great job. Congratulations. I'm not a lover of the cellophane look but I like the fact that it protects the soap, helps retain the perfume and means that a thousand grubby hands won't have been on it before I buy it. That's where your samples are a good idea.

I did some research a few years ago when I was thinking of selling soap and I think there are some rules about having a list of your ingredients printed on the packaging. I know I always like to know what is in a soap and often your potential buyers are people who have allergies and are looking for more natural products.

Thanks Polly, Im trying to work out how to go about that now. It's hard to find out about what you are required to do isn't it :)
Thanks every one for your imput its been very helpfull!

Personally I love the bear soaps and with my sensitive skin, they'd be great for me. I wonder how much it would cost to get these to America. I would most certainly buy them if I saw them in a shop. Do you have local shops which sale crafts, etc. They might sale them for a slight commission. If you had your info on them then they could order from you.
